Day's Eye Launch
Posted on September 21 2016
I’ve been working on this project for a long time now (really over two years) and finally, I am excited to present my small collection.
My beautiful handbags are designed in the suburban area of Kansas City with a flair of Catalonia (Spain) in mind, my birth homeland, where I am fortunate enough to spend some time every summer with my family.
If you think that this is going to be just another handbag, just wait, hear me out and judge me later:
- This is the handbag for backpack lovers.
- This is the handbag that you will be able to wear to different events on the same day.
- This is the handbag that you will be able to wear in different styles during the day.
- This is the handbag that will allow you to have your hands free.
- This is the handbag that you will love and won’t be able to live without.
- This is your new stylish convertible: shoulder, hand, cross body, backpack. All-in-one.
- This is the handbag that people will stop you to ask you where you got it.
- This is the handbag you don’t want to miss.
Why I created Day’s Eye. I’ve been a backpack lover since I was a teenager. Driving a Vespa around my town I always needed to have a backpack. (gosh! I look young)
Anyway, it was always a struggle for me to find a backpack that I liked, so I looked and I looked. The problem is that once I found it, it would not last. So I was stuck looking for a new one again and again. Don’t get me wrong, I found a few very nice ones. But the quality was not there. After my motorcycle years, I always try to make sure I have a backpack for trips. Once I had kids, it became a struggle for me to find a nice handbag that would fit my needs as a mom.
So I was looking for a job for a while, but really, with my husband traveling, early school releases (does anybody else hate those or is just me?), days off of school, and crazy activities hours, I was at a loss.
On a flight to Disney World with my family, 6 months after I had my third child, I drew my first design on a Delta napkin (don't ask me where it is, I probably used it to wipe a little nose.)
It took me a semester to do a business plan and a couple classes on design and Photoshop at JCCC before convincing myself that I could do this. I decided that the best option for me would be working from home. So with the help and motivation of my family and friends, I started Day’s Eye. As you can see, it took me quite some time. Sorry for the delay!
If you wonder why my company is called Day’s Eye, here is the reason: Margarida is translated in English as Daisy. Daisy comes from the Old English word dægeseage, meaning "day's eye". So I thought it was a quite perfect fit for a name. What do you think?
Sourcing and production is done in Spain, just because that's where I am from, makes sense right? Well, wrong. It was after a few disappointments trying to find manufacturing on the East Coast and Midwest that I decided to do it at my birthplace. Spain has beautiful leather and a lot of experience, isn't that what it is known for? Besides the parties, good food, architecture, etc... let's leave it there, it could not go wrong. In fact, everything fit perfectly once I got there. And I have to say that I have no language barriers.
So here I am, opening a website to introduce Day's Eye, and presenting my collection. Hopefully I will get lots of positive comments, but I welcome all feedback! My goal is to create the perfect convertible handbag with the latest trends.
